KO'A KEA HOTEL & RESORT

Poipu, Kauai, Hawaii

HOTEL INTERIOR DESIGN & PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Renovated for Pacific Hospitality Group, the recently reimagined guestroom designs at Ko'a Kea Hotel and Resort were completed in 2022.  Each guest room and suite now features local materials, and fresh color palettes inspired by Kauai's gardens, red earth and native Koa wood elements.  Artfully crafted headboards set in front of a tropical grass-cloth backdrop with coral shapes and capiz shell insets are at the heart of the space.  And artwork has been sourced from both Hawaiian natives and long-time admirers of the destination. Examples include kapa cloth tapestries by local Dalani Tanahy, Polynesian-inspired prints by John Melville Kelly and art by Shirley Russell, best known for her paintings of Hawaii.

Previous refreshes include enhancing areas with the existing contemporary Polynesian style.  A refresh of the pool furniture and umbrellas in soothing neutral tones; new seating and fabrics in alaea sea salt tones in Red Salt restaurant and lounge; new tropical pillows and Hawaiian accessories in the Lobby; and a seating extension of the pool bar with fire pits and teak adirondack chairs was added, the perfect spot to enjoy a sunset cocktail.  Shannon created the exterior and interior designs; prepared plans and FF&E specifications; provided complete procurement services; and oversaw the installation and finishing touches.  Completed in 2018.

Fun Fact:  Shannon has been traveling to the Islands her whole life, the first time being when she was 10 years old on a camping trip with Camp Fire Girls.
